I will provide an overview of GE, GE Research, and the "Systems & Synthesis" lab. Our mission is to develop solutions that accelerate systems & sub-systems development & integration through software synthesis, V&V, and large systems discrete event simulation technologies. Our team consists of Controls Engineers, Electrical, & Systems Engineering with a focus on embedded software development & test as well as Formal methods for requirements capture, analysis & design validation & verification. My talk will focus on how we are tying these technologies to business challenges in Aviation, Power Generation, Transportation, and other GE businesses.
John Garrity is the manager of the Systems & Systems Lab at GE Global Research in Niskayuna, NY. In this role, John is leading a team of approximately 20 Scientists and Engineers to invent and develop new technology for General Electric business units, including Energy (T&D), Digital Energy, Healthcare, Oil & Gas, Security, and Sensing. External customers include Lockheed Martin, DARPA, DoE, and DoD. John and his team have an interest/focus on systems engineering, formal methods, & supervisory control systems for the Aviation, Power Generation & Distribution, and Marine & Transportation domains. He and his team have active programs in the area of developing formal methods tools, robotics for structural inspection, automatic test generation for aviation engines, marine ship optimization, aircraft and air space modeling.
John has been with GE since 1992, with both technical and commercial roles within Industrial Systems, Intelligent Platforms, and Digital Energy. Prior to coming to GE Research his most recent professional experience is leading the acquisition and integration of GE Microwave Data Systems (MDS), an industry leader in industrial, wireless communications systems, for industrial and smart grid applications. His prior GE experience includes engineering, engineering management, and strategic marketing for industrial/utility, energy management systems, electrical protection & control, and industrial/utility smart grid systems.
