Zixuan Yi, a doctoral student in Penn Computer and Information Science (CIS) at the PRECISE Center, is advancing the efficiency of AI-powered data systems through her work on query optimization.
In collaboration with her advisors — Ryan Marcus, Assistant Professor in CIS, and Zack Ives, Department Chair and Adani President's Distinguished Professor of CIS — Yi co-authored a paper introducing LimeQO, a new system that improves database performance by optimizing query workloads collectively rather than individually.
The team’s work, to be presented at SIGMOD 2025, one of the world’s premier data management conferences, demonstrates how techniques from recommendation systems can reduce training costs while improving speed and reliability in large-scale database systems.
