Venkat Viswanathan is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and has been in this role since August 2014. He received his PhD at Stanford University in 2013 and subsequently spent a year as a postdoctoral researcher at MIT. At Carnegie Mellon, he leads an interdisciplinary group comprises of ~25 researchers working on technologies that can accelerate the transition to sustainable energy. He is a recipient of numerous awards including the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, National Science Foundation CAREER award and MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 Finalist. He has been widely quoted on the topic of Li-ion batteries in Wired, NYT, Washington Post, etc. He has been a leading authority on electrification of semi-trucks and aviation. He has broad expertise in materials related to Li-ion batteries, next-generation technologies such as solid-state batteries, Li-air batteries. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles with an h-index of over 20. He has delivered several invited lectures at major conferences including Gordon Conference, Electrochemical Society, Material Research Society, American Chemical Society, Beyond Li-ion Meeting.
