TRUCK2018 - Day 1 - 1300 - Jean A. Tyrell
Jean Tyrell is a Registered Nurse, and the WorkForce Health Consultant, at AmeriGas Propane (King of Prussia, PA). She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Thomas Jefferson University. Over the years she has worked as a nurse in many areas of patient care, teaching, and the corporate world. As a member of the WorkForce Health Team at AmeriGas she is responsible for reviewing drivers’ ability to return to full duty work after an injury or illness.
Significantly, Jean has managed AmeriGas’ response to the issue of Sleep Apnea within the propane driver fleet. In conjunction with the University of Pennsylvania, drivers holding a Commercial Driver’s License are required to undergo testing for Sleep Apnea. If the test is positive for the condition, drivers are provided with the equipment to address the issue. AmeriGas and the University of Pennsylvania monitor results and compliance rates to address equipment needs and provide support if needed to maintain compliance with the program.
Through Jean’s efforts, AmeriGas has a 90 % compliance ratio with the program, now in place since 2015.
In addition, Jean is heavily involved in the return to work program at AmeriGas. In addition to managing the nursing staff that provides medical oversight to injured workers, Jean is charged with returning employees to AmeriGas at the earliest and safest time. Jean works with injured workers and doctors to secure positions that fit within the injured worker’s restrictions to provide accommodated work where possible. Through Jean’s efforts approximately 75% of injured employees remain at work in a modified duty capacity.
