Welcome to The PRECISE Center and thank you for considering our graduate program.
Personally, I became interested in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) because of my interest in systems integration. CPS have computational and physical aspects; they require exquisitely-designed components with the ability to adaptively integrate sensing and actuation to effect the physical world. To build one of these systems, one really has to go beyond programming and mechanics to understand how the two work in harmony.
Other programs may offer coursework or a track in embedded systems, which will offer exposure, but not specialization. We started this program because we recognized that an electrical engineering or computer science degree was not enough to work with embedded systems; students really need exposure to all aspects of integration, not just specific examples.
Although just in its infancy, we have been extremely pleased with the program’s development and our student’s accomplishments thus far.
PRECISE has partnerships with CPS leaders in the defense, automotive, manufacturing, avionics, and health care fields. Our collaborators are consistently impressed with our students, some of whom have competed at engineering contests on a national level and won, and many express an interest in acquiring our students upon their graduation.
